Lapham’s Quarterly: ‘Not to know what happened before one was born is always to be a child’

Lapham’s Quarterly is “a magazine of history and ideas.”

Each issue focuses on a topic that resonates with modern readers but has kindled curiosity for thousands of years.

War. Nature. Medicine. Family. Politics.

Over hundreds of pages, the magazine presents extracts and commentary from past thinkers so that we can benefit from their efforts as we consider these topics today (the quote in the title of this post is featured on their website).

Each issue also includes selections of art, theater, and poetry.

(Bonus: For those who enjoy imbibing ideas on the go, the BBC’s “In Our Time” has a similar mission to Lapham’s and is available in podcast form.)
