Gulliver’s Travels

I think many of us encounter this book when young and then forget about it. Discounting the quality of Swift’s satire in this manner is a mistake I think.

Think of the book as the travel log of a skeptical anthropologist adrift in the world of the human. And whenever you are searching for a way to express your disappointment at or contempt for the failings of humans, recall that Gulliver showed you the way—-he preferred to sleep with his horses rather than endure the company of other humans.
