Inequality Permits and Reinforces Corporate Crime

Rigged Justice

Inequality is often represented as a sea of statistics, documenting the imbalance in opportunities and control over resources in different income or wealth classifications.

But Elizabeth Warren has produced what to me is an even more graphic portrait of the non-democratic nature of our society. Her Rigged Justice:How Weak Enforcement Lets Corporate Offenders Off Easy is a graphic portrayal of a legal system that is so outrageously unfair that you want to shout—“no, this document must be a pack of lies.”

But the illustrations of financial crimes, student loan fraud, automobile safety law violations, occupational safety violations, environmental laws disobeyed, failures to enforce trade laws, and drug manufacturer fraud  document the pervasive implications of wealth inequality as reflected in the blindness of our legal system to corporate criminals.
