Asking BIG Questions

Certain questions are both particularly risky and especially full of potential to enhance our mutual understanding. Habermas’ Ideal Speech Situation IS a prerequisite for meaningful democracy. But that goal on the mountaintop is surely beyond our reach,

But what we can do to approach that goal is focus our learning time on conversations about the big questions, the ones that unmask our intentions and hopes, as well as making us aware of the complexity of how others view the same questions.

Here is a website, “Ask Big Questions”, offered in the same spirit as Scott Brummel’s recent post, that is especially helpful in advancing that conversation. What especially impresses me about this site is its recognition that having a useful conversation requires self-conscious training.
