Covert Activism or Flippant Music

The following is a link to a song by rap musician Lil Dickey.  It presents a bit of a conundrum.

Is this song a clever way to raise awareness about white privilege?  Can the lyrics reasonably be expected to change the public’s perception for the better?  To increase empathy?  Or is music like this of no consequence?  Or worse yet, could “White Dude” reenforce negative stereotypes?

In other words, what are the merits of satire, and what are its limits  to effect change?  Does the format of this satirical piece make it more or less effective than something like Swift’s A Modest Proposal?
